Version 1.2 Release
Version 1.2 coming in HOT!
Check out this video to see what’s coming in this patch:
Step your game up with Just Attacks!
That one mechanic most of you dearly missed (and some of you might have hated, for some reason) has returned in SUPER PHANTASY FIGHTERS!
What’s a Just Attack?
Just Attacks (abbreviated as JA) is a mechanic from PSO2 that allows the player to chain or repeat attacks, where timing your attacks gives a critical damage bonus. In SUPER PHANTASY FIGHTERS, timing your attacks allow you to sequentially complete that attack you’re performing, which results in a simple, 1-button combo. You’ll notice when you see a spark, followed by a pulsating ring and the iconic sound effect! You can combine it with Step cancelling to rapidly repeat or combine those 1-button combos together to make your own complete fighting style! JA’s also (hopefully!) alleviate the animation lock issue players have experienced in previous versions.
JA’s have been added to the following fighters’ movesets:
- Falz Hunar
- Rockbear
- Rock Golem
- Bujin
- Oro-Ogar
Here’s an example of before and after comparisons of the JA implementation.
If you look closely, the fighters have gotten a bit snappier!
New stages!
That’s right, FOUR new stages have been added!
ARKS Ship Urban District
Fight on the rooftop with a nice view of the ARKS Ship’s residential district! This stage is accompanied by the many renditions of Angels with Burning Hearts, including the Episode Oracle, SEGA ROCK, and GBA covers of the song!
Tokyo
It’s a brawl smack in the middle of Tokyo from EPISODE 4! Featuring songs like Zero-G and other upbeat tunes from games like maimai, 7th Dragon, and Persona 4 Arena.
Kuron
It’s Kuron (also known as The Nightfall Province) from planet Harkotan! This stage compliments the previous existing stage in the game, Kakuriyo. Features songs from Phantasy Star Universe.
Special Stage (Sonic Advance 3)
If your childhood self saw this, they’d probably be screaming. It’s the Special Stage from Sonic Advance 3! The gimmick in this stage is the Tornado– depending on how many players are on one side, it'll tilt in that direction!
Other changes
- Existing fighters got an even further speed buff!
- Hunar, Execour, Bujin, Gau, Oro-Ogar, and Rockbear’s hitstun duration have decreased.
- Gibludan’s rock projectiles now deal less damage, and less knockback.
- Bujin's Dimension Slash attack now deals less damage, and less knockback.
- Due to the JA implementation, certain attacks on the listed fighters above have also decreased damage and knockback.
- Alleviated issue with Anga’s lingering hitboxes when performing his killer move.
- CPU players now have faster reaction times (250-350ms → 150-200ms).
- Camera adjustments to existing stages
- Updated tutorial video
- UI changes
- HOPEFULLY fixed the strange, but rare, bug in the Character select screen where button inputs are not responsive, thus preventing the game to be continued, if you return to the screen after a match ends and then alt-tab out of the game. (If the issue still happens, hold the B Button and then select [BATTLE] again.)
